Margaret Smith Court (1942–) was the first
Australian woman to win Wimbledon and a Grand Slam
in mixed doubles. Dominating world tennis in the
1960s, she retired in 1966 to get married and have
children. Three years later, she returned to the
sport, winning three Grand Slam singles events that
same year. In 1970, she won all four Grand Slam
tournaments, defeating Billie Jean King at Wimbledon,
and became the second out of three women ever to
achieve that feat in one year. In May 1973, she
lost a nationally televised match with Bobby Riggs;
her defeat led to the famous Battle of the Sexes
match between Rigg and Billie Jean King. Court retired
in 1977 and two years later became a Hall of Famer
Arthur Robert Ashe, Jr. (July 10, 1943 –
February 6, 1993) was a prominent African American
tennis player who was born and raised in Richmond,
Virginia. During his playing career, he won three
Grand Slam titles. Ashe is also remembered for his
efforts to further social causes.

Billie Jean King (née Moffitt) (born November
22, 1943, in Long Beach, California) is a retired
tennis player from the United States. She won 12
Grand Slam singles titles, 16 Grand Slam women's
doubles titles, and 11 Grand Slam mixed doubles
titles. She is generally considered to be one of
the greatest female tennis players and female athletes
in history.
Björn Rune Borg (help·info) (born June
6, 1956, in Stockholm, Sweden) is a former World
No. 1 tennis player from Sweden regarded by some
observers and tennis players as the greatest player
in the sport's history During a nine-year career,
Borg won 41 percent of the Grand Slam singles tournaments
he entered (11 of 27) and 89.8 percent of the Grand
Slam singles matches he played. Both are male open
era records. In addition, Borg's six French Open
singles titles are an all-time record.

Christine Marie "Chris" Evert (born
December 21, 1954) is a former professional tennis
player from the United States. She won 18 Grand
Slam singles titles, including a record 7 at the
French Open. She was the World No. 1 female singles
player for five years. Evert's career win-loss record
in singles matches of 1,309-146 (.900) is the best
of any professional player in tennis history.
James Scott "Jimmy" Connors (born September
2, 1952, in East St. Louis, Illinois) is a former
World No. 1 American tennis player. He held the
top ranking for 160 consecutive weeks from July
29, 1974 through August 29, 1977, and an additional
eight times during his career (a total of 268 weeks).

Martina Navratilova (born October 18, 1956, in
Prague, Czechoslovakia) is a former World No. 1
woman tennis player. She won 18 Grand Slam singles
titles, 31 Grand Slam women's doubles titles (an
all-time record), and 10 Grand Slam mixed doubles
titles. She reached the Wimbledon singles final
12 times, including 9 consecutive years from 1982
through 1990, and won the women's singles title
at Wimbledon a record 9 times.
John Patrick McEnroe Jr. (born February 16, 1959
in Wiesbaden, West Germany) is a former World No.
1 professional tennis player from the United States.
McEnroe won seven Grand Slam singles titles —
three at Wimbledon and four at the U.S. Open —
nine Grand Slam men's doubles titles, and one Grand
Slam mixed doubles title.

Stefanie Maria Graf (born June 14, 1969, in
Mannheim, West Germany) is a former World No. 1
ranked female tennis player from Germany. Graf is
widely considered to be one of the greatest female
tennis players in history. Graf won 22 Grand Slam
singles titles, second among male and female players
only to Margaret Court's 24. She also won 107 singles
titles, which ranks her third on the list of most
singles titles won during the open era, behind Martina
Navratilova (167 titles) and Chris Evert (154 titles).
Andre Kirk Agassi (born April 29, 1970) is a former
World No. 1 professional American tennis player
who won eight Grand Slam singles tournaments and
an Olympic gold medal in singles. He is one of only
five male players to have won all four Grand Slam
singles events during his career.

is an American former World No. 1 ranked female
tennis player who has won eight Grand Slam singles
titles and an Olympic gold medal in women's doubles.
Venus Ebony Starr Williams (born June 17, 1980)
is an American professional tennis player. She has
won the Olympic gold medal in women's tennis and
14 Grand Slam titles, including six singles .
Petros “Pete” Sampras (born 12 August
1971), is a former World No. 1 American tennis player.
During his 15-year career, he won a record 14 Grand
Slam men's singles titles in 52 appearances. Sampras
finished as World No. 1 on the ATP rankings for
six consecutive years, a record for the open era
and tied for third all-time. Sampras won the singles
title at Wimbledon seven times, a record shared
with William Renshaw. He also won five singles titles
at the U.S. Open, an open era record shared with
Jimmy Connors.

Maria Yuryevna Sharápova (born April 19,
1987) is a Russian professional tennis player and
a former World No. 1. Sharapova has won three Grand
Slam singles titles. In 2004, she beat Serena Williams
to take the Wimbledon title at the age of 17. Two
years later, she defeated Justine Henin in the final
of the 2006 U.S. Open. At the 2008 Australian Open,
she beat Ana Ivanovic in the final.
Rafael Nadal Parera (born June 3, 1986, in Manacor,
Mallorca) is a Spanish professional tennis player.
He is ranked World No. 2, a three-time French Open
singles titlist (2005-07), and a two-time singles
runner-up at Wimbledon (2006-07).

is a Belgian professional tennis player. She is
currently ranked World No. 1. She has won 7 Grand
Slam singles titles, including four French Open
titles, one Australian Open title, and two U.S.
Open titles.
Roger Federer born August 8, 1981 is a Swiss tennis
professional, ranked World No. 1 since February
2, 2004, for a record 213 consecutive weeks.[2]
Federer has won twelve Grand Slam singles titles
(three Australian Open, five Wimbledon, four US
Open), four Tennis Masters Cup titles, and fourteen
ATP Masters Series titles.
